MA Project: An investigation in to perfect and imperfect.
My masters research direction will focus on an investigation into perfect and imperfect: beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”. I will explore contrasts within fabrication and combine natural fabrics with technical fabrics and experiment with Laser cutting, embroidery techniques and creative cutting (garment) women’s wear.
As a creative designer I am very focused on experimental pattern cutting, creating new shapes and new silhouettes. To me, rather than just making garments, I also want be sculpting with fabric to creating shapes and big silhouettes.
I have identified my market level that it is appropriate to the design concept and considerations, such as Maison Martin Margiela and Comme des Garçons. however, it is felt that the named competitors are within knowledge and it would be beneficial to investigate newer, younger labels and designers.
My market level is going to be within a designer brand which has a range stock in retail shops . My customer base is probably a widespread age of all girls and women, but has a very simple and chic lifestyle. Dover Street Market ( Comme des Garçons ) would be the perfect shop choice for my market levels. In my final collection there may be a variety of products and sustainable development products, bags, hair accessories, magazines. An alternative path has been found, turning Comme des Garçons into a well-respected creator of ready-to-wear, magazines, furniture, books and exhibitions. They are a very successful brand that shows the process from an idea to a product then to the marketing , as well as a chic style of a brand and how the fashion can be extend to other areas as well. This is also one of the reasons I chose Fashion Design. I believe that after this third phase of the study, I will be more confident to build my own brand or work in other design studio.
